6th June 2012
The Camping and Caravanning Club marked the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in spectacular fashion by setting a Guinness World Record for the most people wearing paper crowns in 24 hours (at multiple venues).
As of 5.30pm on Monday 4th June, the record stood at just over 13,000 but the final total is set to be higher once all the data has been officially verified by Guinness World Records in the next few days.
Over 100 Club and Camping in the Forest Sites took part in the audacious record attempt. A record attempt of this nature and scale had never been attempted before in the UK.
Celebrity botanist and Club President David Bellamy took part in the Record Attempt at the Club's hub site at Sandringham and he added: "NCCW is all about bringing new and experienced campers together - and I'm delighted to have celebrated with the Club by setting a new Guinness World Record!
"I'm certainly going to keep my crown as a memento - carry on camping everyone!”

All campers are now encouraged to visit the Club's Facebook page to receive a personal thank you for taking part in the Record Attempt from the Club's very own 'Royals'.
The attempt was run during National Camping and Caravanning Week (June 2 to June 8) which is now into its 12th year and celebrates the nation's growing love of camping, caravanning and the great outdoors.
In support of The Jubilee Central Weekend, the Club also planted a commemorative tree on site at Sandringham to honour the Woodland Trust's Jubilee Woods project and a number of Jubilee Big Lunches were held at some Club and Camping in the Forest Sites across the UK on the Sunday.
Club Director General Robert Louden added: "The planning that has gone into putting on such a large event is phenomenal and I'd personally like to thank all of those people that have been involved in organising what has been such a brilliant day.
"As a Club, we will continue to promote National Camping and Caravanning Week and encourage holidaymakers to get out camping and to enjoy our great British countryside.”
