School Children Explore the Factory

A group of year eleven pupils from Harelaw School in Stanley paid a visit to Elddis premises in Consett this week to experience what it would be like to work in manufacturing. Elddis Ltd is working in conjunction with Harelaw School in Stanley, County Durham to promote different career options available to them when they leave school.

The visits were part of the Work Related Links project, which gives children with moderate learning difficulties the opportunity to learn about work. The scheme has three objectives: to learn about work, to learn the skills required for work and to learn through work, all are delivered through a series of practical workshops and visits run in line with the curriculum at Harelaw School.

Gary Jones, General Manager at Elddis invited the local school to show them the manufacturing process

“This is the third time Elddis has invited Harelaw School to the factory. The children really enjoy the visits and learn a lot about working in manufacturing. The children ask lots of interesting questions which reassures us that they are getting the most out of their experience.”

John Fox and Barbara Fortune, teachers at the school are delighted to be working with Elddis,

“The children really enjoy their visits to businesses in the North East. They especially enjoy visiting Elddis. They get to see how a caravans and motohomes are manufactured from start to finish; they also enjoy interacting with the different staff at Elddis. We are looking to organise another visit in the next few weeks with a group of year ten pupils and we hope there will be many more to follow.”

This group of year eleven pupils have big plans for their futures. Many of them have decided to enrol at local colleges to continue their education. Elddis would like to wish them the best of luck in everything that they do.
