New Caravan? That's 'Goodenough' For Me
A caravan enthusiast is toasting the purchase of his new pride and joy with a cheque for over £7,000 thanks to Elddis Limited (EGL).
Paul Goodenough, 48 from High Wycombe, purchased an Elddis Crusader Typhoon touring caravan in July as a gift for himself and his wife, yet little did he know he had been entered into a free prize draw.
The July HOT Spot competition, promoted by EGL, allowed anyone who purchased a touring caravan in July 2005 to be entered into draw. This offered entrants the chance to win back the balance of any money they paid towards a new tourer.
"I thought it was a wind-up” said Paul recalling the phone call he received informing him of his win.
"I get lots of calls at home telling me I have won this holiday and that car but never in my wildest dreams did I think it was true.
"When Stuart from Elddis called me to tell me the good news I thought he was pulling my leg. It wasn't until I received a congratulatory phone call from the retailer I bought the caravan from that I believed it” beamed Paul.
Paul and wife Lorna have been avid caravanners for over 12 years and had their previous caravan, manufactured by Bailey, for four years.
They were eager to purchase a new tourer and Paul admits his wife fell in love with their Elddis tourer as soon as she stepped into it.
"She shouted across to me when she was in the shop and said: this is the one. She loved the feel and finish of the caravan and it fitted our every need”, said Paul.
Stuart Hicks, Marketing Manager at EGL said: ”The July HOT Spot promotion was a great success and I am really pleased, having met Paul and Lorna, that the prize went to such avid caravanners who know what they like when they see it."
The Goodenoughs received their cheque for £7,724 at the Earls Court Camping and Caravan Show last month. The money has been a welcome surprise, providing part of the nest egg for their retirement.
"The money is for when we retire so we can go on more journeys in our caravan and continue to enjoy ourselves. It has also paid for a romantic trip to France to celebrate my 48th birthday as well as our 24th wedding anniversary,” smiled Paul.
He believes everyone should try caravanning as it is a great release from the day-to-day toil of work and provides opportunities to see some fantastic sights.
"My wife and I have spent many a happy time in our caravans and have some great trips planned for our new one,” said Paul. "The first of which is meeting up with some close friends who are part of our caravanning club for our yearly Christmas party. I recommend caravanning to anyone!”
