Elddis drives caravan weights down for 2012

All Elddis Caravans are lighter for 2012

Following a significant investment programme over the last two years, Elddis now leads the way in driving down caravan weights. The overall weight of a caravan is becoming increasingly the most important factor governing customer choice as car manufacturers strive to make their cars ever lighter in a bid to improve fuel efficiency and reduce the impact on the environment. These factors however impact caravanners who have their choices of caravan limited by the ability of their car to tow their chosen caravan.

Over the last two years, Elddis have made considerable inroads into reducing caravan weights and for the 2012 products the introduction of Advanced Materials Technology has allowed us to make even greater weight reductions without the need to reduce structural strength and build quality. The use of fully bonded roofs on some models, an entirely unique floor construction featuring a GRP under skin that is completely impervious to water and advanced furniture design all contribute to some of the most significant weight reductions the industry has seen in years.

Examples of the weight savings are the Elddis Avante 540, our most popular model which has a MTPLM of 1412kg for 2012, a reduction of 78kg on lasts years model making it 31kg lighter than the equivalent Bailey Olympus 2 and 18kg lighter than the equivalent Swift Challenger Sport. Elddis weight savings have been made across the range and our standard setting twin axle models have not escaped the weight savings either. The 2012 Avante 624 has lost a staggering 100kg and now has an MTPLM of just 1550kg, putting a twin axle caravan in the towing reach of many typical family cars rather than a large 4 x 4.

Elddis Commercial Director Chris Whitham commented "We believe that caravan weights are critically important and as a manufacturer we want to ensure that we are leading the field in driving down weights to not only widen customers choice, but also save them money through lower tow vehicle fuel costs and ensuring our caravans can be towed by the latest generation of light weight fuel efficient cars. Our new lighter 2012 models have already received widespread acclaim and we believe that Elddis are set to increase our market share this year as a direct result of the weight reductions we have managed to achieve."
