Judy's Scottish Caper
Elddis Ltd has teamed up with Judy Woolfenden MBE in her latest adventure. Judy’s zest for life inspired Elddis to help her on her next challenge. The Scottish Caper tour starts this month and will see Judy and her team undertake a 37-day tour around Scotland and the North of England in an Elddis Avantgarde 180 motorhome, including a visit to Elddis Premises in Consett to meet the team and a factory tour.
In 1986 Judy was diagnosed as having a progressive illness called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a neuromuscular wasting condition and was told she would not live to see 40 years old but now aged 59 years old Judy is still proving the Doctors predictions wrong. Judy was awarded an MBE by the Queen in 2007 for her services to disabled people in the West Midlands and now runs her own charity ‘The Judy Woolfenden Challenge’.
The charity is dedicated to raising positive awareness of disability. She has competed many amazing challenges including 54 flights in a hot air balloon, uphill skiing in Australia, won a gold medal at the Indoor Rowing Championships and was on top of the Flying Gunners motorcycle display team’s human pyramid.
Judy has remained positive throughout her life and refuses to let her disability hold her back. She strives to show people that disabled people can enjoy life and the outdoors as much as everyone else.
“Although we do have problems, we are normal and with help we can have as much adventure and fun as anyone else. I have never spent this long in a motorhome I am especially looking forward to cooking meals on the road, I am very thankful to Elddis Ltd for providing me and my team with a motorhome.”
Chris Whitham, Commercial Director at Elddis is pleased that the company could help with Judy’s latest challenge
“Elddis are proud to be associated with such a worthy cause. We hope that this trip inspires other people to experience the adventures associated with motor caravanning. Judy is an inspiration to us all and I wish her the best of luck with her challenge”.
All of the money raised from the trip will be given to the Judy Woolfenden Challenge and then evenly distributed between Coventry Friends of Home Farm Trust, Combat Stress, Disabled Living Foundation, Riding for the Disabled Association, RAF Benevolent Fund, The Gurkha Welfare Trust, The Young Voices of 12 and the South Warwickshire Haematology Trust Fund.
