Maureen's Most Magnificent Adventure!

The Caravan Club is delighted to be involved with a new award in conjunction with Elddis.

Maureen's Elddis Word Trip

The Caravan Club Elddis of the Year 2002 will be presented, for the first time, to Maureen Middleton.

Maureen, a 63 year-old from Yorkshire has just returned from a truly epic adventure in her 12 year-old Elddis AutoQuest motorhome, nicknamed Womble.

The journey began on April 6th last year and ended 282 days and 28,000 miles later. The 63 year-old grandmother travelled through some of the world's biggest troublespots but this did not daunt her. Womble had a full service at TB Turbo in Lancaster and then the journey began with a ferry trip from Hull to Rotterdam, onwards through Holland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, along the Black Sea coast to Georgia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kurdistan. Maureen then returned via Tibet, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Iran and along the Turkish Mediterranean coast to Greece, Italy and France.

Maureen's Elddis Word Trip

Maureen kept in touch with friends and family during her trip using mobile phone and internet, and said she only once felt in danger when temperatures reached minus 20C on snow-covered roads in eastern Turkey and the diesel in her tank nearly froze... Of her experience Maureen commented, "The best aspect of the whole adventure has to be the warmth and friendship with which I was received by people all over the world, I never failed to find a welcome." In praise of Womble Maureen continued, "She's a marvellous vehicle, the only problems we had were a leaky radiator, a few loose nuts and bolts due to the road conditions and two punctures. Womble certainly served me well and I have returned from my adventures knowing a lot more about vehicles than I used to!"

Maureen's Elddis Word Trip

Michael Hold, Marketing Director of Elddis said, "Maureen's motorhome now has 150,000 miles on the clock and has driven through some of the roughest terrain on the planet, and it's still going! All of us at Elddis applaud Maureen on her magnificent adventure - it just goes to show, our vehicles are built to last." Richard Ashton, The Caravan Club's Director of Marketing comments, "We are delighted to be associated with this award and Maureen has shown that you really can Achieve Your Dreams with a motorhome."

The only remaining question has to be - where is Maureen going on holiday next year!
