York Beechwood Grange was the first Caravan and Motorhome site we visited at the start of our Avante Adventure and we decided to make it our last.

Since we visited this site a year ago a brand-new toilet block has been built (although we did not have any complaints about the old one). The facilities include a family washroom as well as lots of clean showers and toilets. There is also a Playground and field for children to play on and a dog walking area. The generous pitches are easy to park on - grass and hard standing.

We visited Eden Camp at Malton which is a Unique modern history theme museum which has 28 huts of memorabilia and the history of all who served in HM forces including the home guard. The visit transports you back to wartime Britain to experience the sights, sounds and smells of the war years. It is set in the buildings and grounds of an original Prisoner of War camp that held Italians and Germans. There is a lovely cafe and lots to do for all ages and in our opinion the entry fee is very reasonably priced.

The Park and Ride bus into York is about a mile away from the Beechwood Grange caravan site by the Monk Cross shopping centre where there is a lovely M&S which has a good food mall – we bought a dine in for 2 which was fab.  There are various places to eat there too.

The weather was disappointing on our last full day when we caught the park and ride from Monks Cross into York, so the visit turned into a mini pub crawl.  Very reasonably priced beers can be found at the Riverside Kings Arms which has lots of outdoor tables by the river. The Maltings has a good selection of beers and is well worth a visit.

It is incredibly sad our year has come to an end.  The Elddis Avante 462 is a fabulous 2-berth caravan – it did not let us down once in heating, lighting, hot water etc and the facilities of the microwave oven, full oven, good sized fridge and great shower are perfect.  The caravan is light and airy inside and it feels bigger than it actually is.  The colour scheme décor is fabulous, and the bed is sooo comfy.  The outside of the caravan is very stylish too and it is very easy to tow.

We have loved our Avante Adventure visiting around 38 different camp sites and we have been to France, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and seen many places in England we have not been to. The Caravan and Motorhome sites are consistently well kept, and the facilities and pitches are excellent.

We were very much ‘home birds’ before winning this fabulous prize and now we realise there is so much more we need to see and do – both home and abroad.
